Eyebrow waxing typically uses wax that can be heated that is applied to the area of hair growth that one wants removed and a thin cotton muslin cloth for hair to adhere to. Hair is removed by pulling the muslin cloth once the wax has set. Eyebrow threading involves a cotton thread twisted and rolled around the hair growth that one wants removed and removes the hair once the thread is pulled.

Eyebrow waxing is generally found to be more painful compared to threading. This is because threading only targets individual hairs while waxing may cause the wax to adhere to the skin and be pulled together with the hair follicles. This may be painful to some people.

Threading is more precise than waxing and allows for better control of hair follicles that are removed.

Threading only uses a cotton thread for pulling hair and is considered a more natural process of hair removal. Waxing may contain artificial chemicals and may cause skin irritation in some individuals with sensitive skin.

A study between people who use wax versus threading has found out that more people develop acne in the eyebrow area in people who use wax compared to those who used threading. Threading is also recommended for those who use medications such as Retin-A and Accutane.

Threading is generally less invasive and better for the skin compared to eyebrow waxing. This is because waxing may tug or pull the skin. Sometimes, waxing may even stretch and remove some of the skin under the eyebrows. This loose skin may contribute to the development of wrinkles. Threading only pulls out the hair follicles, which is why it does not contribute so much to the loosening of the skin and the formation of wrinkles.

The wax needs to be warmed to the right temperature and the small spatula is used in applying a wax at the hair growth. Please note that the wax applied is a small amount and you must not let it dry. To avoid wax from dripping from the spatula, put in small amounts of wax at the tip of the spatula only. Putting in small amounts of wax on the spatula would also help you not to apply too much wax under your eyebrows too.

With one hand, gently smooth a thin cotton muslin cloth over the waxed area and allow the wax to set. If you are waxing underneath your right eye, gently pull the skin taut using your right hand. With your left hand, quickly pull the muslin cloth with your left hand against the direction of the hair growth. Do the same with the other eyebrow.

Remember that in eyebrow waxing, the application of the wax is the same direction as the hair growth. In removing the muslin cloth, it should be pulled against the direction of the hair growth.
